Embracing Conservative Values

May 1, 2024 by Lyle E Brennan

In a time filled with constant change and shifting social norms, I find comfort and guidance in conservative values, which are based on age-old wisdom and principles that have proven reliable over time. This belief is deeply rooted in the enduring truths of the Judeo-Christian tradition, which teaches that God’s wisdom is unchanging through the ages. My commitment to conservatism isn’t because I’m against progress; it’s based on a long history of seeing what strategies succeed and fail, as shown through the enduring wisdom that has driven societies forward. These pillars of conservatism echo God’s divine wisdom, urging us to build upon the permanent rather than chase the short-lived whispers of modernism.

History is replete with examples of societies flourishing under conservative principles. The United States Constitution, with its roots in Judeo-Christian values, stands as a beacon of democracy and liberty. The Reagan era’s economic policies, embodying conservative pragmatism, sparked accelerated growth and prosperity through fiscal discipline and entrepreneurial freedom.

The synergy between conservatism and Judeo-Christian values is deliberate, based on the conviction that divine principles are timeless and universally applicable. This unchanging truth provides a solid foundation in an often-volatile world, guiding us with justice, mercy, stewardship and love. It’s a stable anchor fastened to the bedrock, offering us a constant hold in this unrestrained and ever-changing world.

As conservatives, our response to these eternal truths is not passive, but a dynamic commitment to uphold what is right and just. We are called to be active participants in the world, preserving the legacy entrusted to us and advocating for policies that reflect our core values.

Our commitment to action, driven by our beliefs, urges us to actively participate in civic life and maintain integrity, as guided by divine wisdom. This ethos is particularly resonant in Nevada, where a pioneering spirit and conservative principles have nurtured an environment rich in innovation and entrepreneurship. Examples abound, such as Sheldon Adelson’s tenure at the Las Vegas Sands Corporation. His leadership fostered sustainable growth, ethical business practices and significant philanthropic efforts, contributing to both the company’s success and societal well-being. Similarly, the Sierra Nevada Corporation, under the guidance of Fatih and Eren Ozmen, exemplifies conservative values through its focus on long-term value creation, financial prudence and community engagement, notably in education and support for veterans.

These instances are but a glimpse into Nevada’s embodiment of conservative ideals, which have cultivated a landscape where honor, resilience and prosperity flourish. The state’s business achievements and storied past are profound affirmations of how conservative principles contribute to the development of distinguished individuals, robust communities and flourishing economies.

CALL TO ACTION: As we face today’s challenges, let’s use the time-tested values of conservatism—values our history and faith show work—to move forward confidently. This way, we respect what those before us have built and lay down a strong base for future generations. Keeping to the truths of honesty, fairness and freedom helps us navigate an ever-changing world, guided by timeless wisdom. To really live by these values, I suggest looking into the Bible for constant truths and not just stopping there; put these truths into action. Join your local church or synagogue, help out in your community, consider running for political office, support policies that align with these values, and share the benefits of conservative values with others. By doing these things actively, we show our commitment to these important values and encourage others to see the good they can bring to personal and community life.

2 Chronicles 7:14 (NKJV) “If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
