The Shot Seen Around the World

August 8, 2024 by Lyle E Brennan

“The shot heard around the world,” is a common phrase we’ve heard a million times. But I wasn’t as familiar with the origins of the phrase which can trace back to the American Revolutionary War. The “shot” referenced is from a poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson and represents the opening shot of the battles of Lexington and Concord which sparked the war and led to the creation of the United States. Now we have a new “shot” which has been heard, and seen, around the world. Hopefully this one will be more unifying.

As everyone now knows, former President Donald Trump was shot at a rally on July 13th. He survived the assassination attempt by the grace of God only receiving a graze to his ear. Sadly, one rally-goer died, and two others were seriously injured. The shooter was killed at the scene. Those shots were significant and, had they been successful in their original aim, would have certainly changed the course of history.

However, there’s another “shot” that did change the course of American history, certainly the course of this coming election. That “shot” is the photograph of Trump, fist held defiantly high, blood on his face and the United States’ flag waving in the background. The photograph is iconic and seen around the world as a show of strength from a candidate who has been attacked on all sides as he runs once again for our country’s highest office. If you haven’t seen the image, I encourage you to take a moment to look it up.

We are at a crossroads in this country and watching history unfold before our very eyes. Seeing the highest levels of our elected government persecute a political opponent is objectively wrong. It’s not something I ever expected to see in the United States of America. And, whether you agree with Trump or not, it’s hard not to wonder why he’s viewed as such a threat by the liberals in our country.

Now we’ve watched that same political opponent get shot with a lapse of security that is worrying at best, insidious and indicative of a conspiracy at worst. All Americans should be shocked that a presidential nominee in our country was almost assassinated by a 20-year-old kid. Secret Service clearly failed to do its job.

CALL TO ACTION: It was Maya Angelou who said, “When someone shows you who they are, believe them.” That should always be applied to our elected leaders. Believe what your eyes tell you rather than what others tell you to believe. For too long we’ve allowed a spoon feeding of information filtered through the lens of liberal policies and it’s led to a disaster. This election is a pivotal moment for the United States of America. I’ll be voting for the man who showed, not with words, but deeds how he responds when under fire. In the words of the 45th and 47th president of the United States, the time has come to “Fight, Fight, Fight” for our country.
